Roger Simon Gallet was born in 1943, the only child of Louis and Valerie Gallet. A trained architect, Roger attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology and then received his Master in Architecture from Harvard University in 1971 where he crossed paths with Auböck family friend and Bauhaus founder, Walter Gropius before his passing in 1969. Upon his graduation from Harvard, Roger Gallet worked for The Architect’s Collaborative, (TAC) and would join Hugh Stubbins in designing the Pusey Library project at Harvard. Roger would later work with other notable architects such as Tasso Katselas, Michael Molnar, and others. Gallet would leave his fingerprint on the region with his design of several residential homes and various other architectural projects. As a board member of the Uniontown Jewish Community Center, Roger Gallet was instrumental in the Gate of Life Holocaust Memorial project, working closely with artist Zeljko Kujundzic and renowned landscape architect and golf course designer, Ron Forse to bring the project to fruition. In the 1970s, Roger married Marjorie Whyel and they had two children, Mariel and Louis Gallet. Roger would eventually put his full time architecture practice aside to assist his mother, Valerie, and take on a larger role in managing the Gallet Mills knitting factory. Roger closed the factory at 120 Delaware Ave in Uniontown, PA in 1997 after his mother, Valerie Auböck-Gallet’s passing. Upon Valerie’s death, her large collection of Auböck art and objects passed on to Roger as did the ownership of the 23 Bernardgasse building in Vienna, Austria which continues to house the Werkstätte Carl Auböck. Roger Gallet was a collector of art but his true passion was cars. Having amassed many exotic cars over his lifetime, his collection was admired by car aficionados and often a topic of conversation amongst local community members. In 2020, Roger passed away peacefully at his home in the Deer Lake community in Chalk Hill, PA.
